TWISTS
Fast Talk (1 Intellect Point – Tier 1)
When speaking with an intelligent creature who can understand her and isn’t hostile, she convinces that creature to take one reasonable action on the next round. A reasonable action must be agreed upon by the GM; it should not put the creature or its allies in obvious danger or be wildly out of character.
Spin Identity (2+ Intellect Points – Tier 1)
She convinces all intelligent creatures who can see, hear, and understand her that she is someone or something other than who she actually is. She doesn't impersonate a specific individual known to the victim. Instead, she convinces the victim that she is someone they do not know belonging to a certain category of people. “We’re from the government.” “I’m just a simple farmer from the next town over.” “Your commander sent me.” A disguise isn’t necessary, but a good disguise will almost certainly be an asset to the roll involved. If she attempts to convince more than one creature, the Intellect cost increases by 1 point per additional victim. Fooled creatures remain so for up to an hour, unless her actions or other circumstances reveal her true identity earlier.

BACKSTORY
Sam was a geeky, awkward, shy girl. She was super-smart and loved science fiction, fantasy, comic books, and video games. She had one really good friend, Jess, and they hung out all the time. But most of the other kids in school either ignored her or picked on her.
That all changed when she was a junior in high school and she interned at a science lab. She worked closely with Lara Frost, a brilliant scientist who happened to like a lot of the same geeky things as Sam. Lara was impressed by Sam’s intelligence and work ethic and took her under her wing.
In May of her junior year when she was seventeen, Sam was working with Lara alone in the lab. Lara came on to Sam and kissed her. Sam had never been kissed by a girl before. Okay, she had never been kissed by anyone before. But it was nice. Lara seduced her and they had sex.
The next thing Sam remembered was waking up in her bed at home. She wondered if she had dreamt the whole thing. If so, it was one hell of a dream. But she realized it had been real. She seemed to be different physically and definitely felt different. She felt confident and attractive. She felt like she could do anything. She wondered if this is how everyone felt after losing their virginity. Or if Lara was just such an amazing kisser she could give people super-powers. But Sam was smart enough to realize Lara had probably exposed her to something or given her some serum that changed her.
Sam went back to the lab but found it deserted. There was no sign a lab had even existed there and she couldn’t find any record online of a Dr. Lara Frost. Unbeknownst to her, Lara was an agent in the OSR (Office of Strategic Recursion), a secret government agency.
Sam would have been pissed about what Lara did to her, but she was too excited about her new abilities. She felt like Spider-Man getting bit by a radioactive spider. And she had also lost her virginity to a hot, sexy, super-smart, possibly fictitious scientist. So all in all, things weren’t so bad.
The physical changes she experienced were actually small but to her they seemed significant. It was really more that her confidence and charisma greatly increased rather than her outward appearance. She was already attractive. But she didn’t think she was. The change let her have the confidence to know she was attractive.
Her body did undergo some physical changes. Her arms and legs became more tone, she seemed to be a little taller, she could have sworn her boobs got a little bigger and firmer, though this was probably just her being more confident in her own body. Her eyesight improved so she didn’t need glasses anymore. She let her hair down instead of keeping it up all the time. She still wore geeky shirts but ones that were a little tighter and jeans that showed off her hips, which she thought were kind of sexy now.
The biggest change was the charismatic effect she had on people. She found everyone in school who ignored or made fun of her wanted to be her friend. She could suddenly give amazing oral reports when before she would stutter or vomit. She could talk to guys and girls she liked when before she was super-awkward around them. She found out people always felt better and were in a better mood in her presence. Instead of the shy introverted girl she had been, she was know confident and outgoing.
Fellow students would ask her to tell them one of her amazing stories during lunch or free periods. Some of these were her own stories she wrote. Others would be her orating a well-known story: Shakespeare, Ancient Egyptian and Greek legends, Arthurian tales, sci-fi and comic book adventures. Somehow when she told the stories of these well-known tales they seemed to be even better than the author’s original words.
She could convince people she and others had a different identity. She would use this to get her and others from school into R-rated movies by convincing the theater workers they were college students. She also used this ability to buy alcohol and get backstage at rock concerts or onto movie sets to meet stars. She had the reputation of being able to talk her way into anything.
She became kind of addicted to using her abilities and abused them to some extent. She started to convince people to do things. Maybe convince a teacher to give her an extra day to prepare for a test or change a A- to an A. Convince her mom to give her a little extra in her allowance. Convince a guy who thought she was cute to kiss her. Tell a girl how to pleasure her during sex.
She came to realize that most of her friends weren’t really her friends. They were just her friends because of her abilities and because she could get them things and get them into places. She didn’t know who liked her for her and who liked her for her abilities. She didn’t know if anyone she dated actually really liked her or it was just her abilities convincing them to like her.
The turning point in her life is when she couldn’t save her best friend. Jess was killed by a spiraler (spiral dust addict). He was strung out and Sam tried to use her abilities to calm him down but couldn’t. And he shot and killed Jess. All her persuasive and charismatic abilities couldn’t save the one true friend she had. The one person who she knew liked her for who she was and not just for her abilities. She was helpless to do anything to save Jess.
She became determined to never let that happen again. She vowed to increase her abilities so she could stop innocent people from getting hurt and dying. Especially people she cared about. She took on Spider-Man’s mantra: With great power, comes great responsibility. It fit since Spider-Man had always been one of her favorite superheroes growing up.
She’s constantly using her abilities to get better at them. Even if it means crossing the line sometimes. If it will serve the greater good of her getting powerful enough to stop another person she cares about from dying, she’s willing to do it. She’s willing to break the law and bend the rules when she needs to. She wants to stop criminals and those who want to hurt others. She wants to do that the noble way Spider-Man would. But if that means sometimes doing some morally questionable things to achieve her goal, she’s probably going to do it.
That’s also one reason she has her YouTube channel and does a lot of in-person appearances. She wants to keep practicing to improve her abilities. She figures the more subscribers and views she gets, the more skilled she’s getting at using her abilities. She’ll sometimes ask her viewers to do kooky things to see if her abilities are strong enough to get them to do it. Nothing dangerous. But stuff people wouldn’t normally do, like smash a pie in their friend’s face or do a crazy dance in the middle of a mall.
She also sometimes puts herself in dangerous situations to see if she can push her abilities beyond their current limits. So she might try to convince a spiral dealer to destroy his supply or give up selling the drug. But if it doesn’t work, he’ll likely attack her or have his goons do it. Because of the danger, she’s learned to defend herself physically in case her powers of persuasion don’t work. She’s studied a few different forms of martial arts the past few years: Karate, Muay Thai, and Aikido.
She currently has a very popular YouTube Channel where she vlogs. Most often she’ll tell stories on her vlog but will act them out energetically and do different voices and use props. Sometimes she’ll share her thoughts on her favorite geeky shows or talk about fun or crazy things she’s done recently. She also creates a lot of fan fiction and will read/perform that on her channel. The fan fiction stories are a favorite among her subscribers. People find when they start watching one of her videos, they can’t stop until the video is done. And then they want to watch more.
She also does a lot of personal appearances at comic cons, comic book shops, and bookstores, telling stories and fun anecdotes. She comes across as very energetic, personable, fun-loving, and quirky. She embraces her love of geek culture and it’s made her very popular among the comic con crowd.
She just recently had her first experience translating to a different recursion, and she wasn’t even trying to. She was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition when she began fantasizing about actually getting to be in the world of Dragon Age and being a Grey Warden. And suddenly she found herself there! She was in a fantasy realm dressed in a leather tunic with a bow and arrow and daggers. Her hair was much longer, she was taller and more lithe. The biggest difference was when she felt her ears. They were pointed like an elf’s. She didn’t realize it at the time but she had translated her consciousness into a recursion that was like Dragon Age. This was by far the coolest thing ever, since she had always dreamed about being able to live in a fantasy world like The Princess Bride or a sci-fi world like Star Wars.
Shortly after this experience, the Estate recruited her and started teaching her about The Strange and all the different recursions. Finding out about fictional leakage and that she might be able to actually visit the worlds of her favorite fictional stories was what excited her more than anything. She has so many geeky universes she’d love to play in.
So she jumped at the change to work for the Estate. She knew it would help her develop her powers more and give her awesome stories to tell. And it’s pretty much a geek girl’s dream come true to be able to travel to different worlds and realms!
