new star wars: the force awakens lightsaber footage!

Wanna get even more excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens?  Well 15 seconds of footage, including never-before-seen shots, were posted to the Star Wars Instagram today.  And the most amazing part is the very last shot where John Boyega's character Finn ignites a blue lightsaber in a snowy wooded backdrop, very similar to the setting we've seen Mr. Crossguard Lighstaber Dude in (that's what I like to call him).  Check out the footage and cool analysis at Nerdist and let us know what you think and how freakin' excited you are for the movie! - Jeff

Fear the Walking Dead

The brand new show Fear the Walking Dead, a prequel to The Walking Dead, premiered last night on the AMC channel to the highest ratings of any cable TV show ever!  According to an article published today at EW.com, AMC said that the premiere of Fear had 10.1 million viewers. The Walking Dead premiered with 5.4 million viewers in 2010!

I had heard about the new prequel but I had no idea what it was actually going to be about. I was king of wondering how a spin-off of the amazing Walking Dead would even fare. But apparently it was the most tuned-in premiere in cable TV history, which says a lot. Reading up on the premise of Fear, about a Los Angeles family at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, does actually sound like it will have a very action-packed story line.

Did you guys watch the premiere last night? What did you think? Let us know in the "Comments" section below! I'm definitely interested in checking it out when I get a chance!

Behind the scenes of Sense8

With converging story lines, an in-depth history, and much location hopping, Sense8 blew our minds. From a filmmaking perspective, we can only imagine how challenging it was to keep the details of the story straight, not to mention continuity and the logistics of working with such a large ensemble cast. Thankfully, Netflix must have known we'd all be wondering how the Wachowskies and crew did it and have released a twenty five minute documentary that gives us the low down. Based on this article from Indiewire which covers some of the highlights, it looks like it's full of the movie magic we all love.

Blunt Talk

This just in! Brand new comedy show Blunt Talk on the Starz network stars Patrick Stewart! He plays a British TV Journalist (with some nasty habits) named Walter Blunt. This new show is created by Jonathan Ames, and produced by Seth MacFarlane.

So far some critics who have seen some pre-release episodes aren't too thrilled about it... but I know that sometimes the first few episodes of a new show are always a bit rough. Have you heard about it? What do you guys think?

Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the "Comments" section!

Jessica Jones and Daredevil to meet?

With all the hoopla over the Marvel movie machine, we sometimes forget about the ever-developing world of the Marvel universe on TV.  While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter are hit and miss with people, the Netflix Marvel offerings are a bit of a different story.  Daredevil wowed us with great choreography (hello, actually getting tired during a fight) and good performances but now we're getting more into that universe with the arrival of Jessica Jones.  What is interesting here is that, while the two heroes may or may not meet, the creators have told us that they play in the same playground - aka Hell's Kitchen.  So chances are very good that we'll see some of the same supporting characters and locations in the Jessica Jones series.  We don't know about you but it's going to be extremely entertaining trying to pick out Easter eggs while watching these shows grow and develop.  Any thoughts, SGU family?

Happy Friday everyone! Nicole here and I just came across such an inspiring video from Felicia Day that simply encourages all of us to be ourselves and embrace the weirdness that makes each of us unique. It's amazing and I feel like the spirit of this video really encapsulates (is that the right word?) what all of us at Super Geeked Up believe and what we try to promote with the show. Everyone is unique and special and awesome and we should feel confident and happy being ourselves! Let's all go out and embrace our uniqueness today and everyday!

A few videos today! Here's one to start your day off in a feel-good way!

Why, X-files? Why?!

Tonya here, SGU family. I was going to write a nice post about my excitement over the Jessica Jones series coming to Netflix but then FOX dropped this bombshell. I gotta tell you - my inner tween is crying right now. That tween who wrote her first (and only) piece of fan fic based on her naive hope that these two would just get together is just inconsolable. Why? Because Mulder and Scully broke up. According to this article in EW, the couple with the most intense non-spoken chemistry in the history of TV, who FINALLY just got over themselves and made it official, are through. I'll half forgive the non-redheadness of Scully but this? No. No way. FOX and Chris Carter, why must you ruin everything?

No one talk to me about pigs and frogs, Gwen and Gavin, or Jen and Ben either, ok? This 90's girl is curled up in the corner questioning her every entertainment choice during her formative years. At least, I still have Angel and Buffy...wait...
