Super-exciting news if you're a Trek fan like me! We already knew that a new Star Trek series is coming to CBS All Acess (the network's digital platform) next January from Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller, but now we know a veteran Star Trek Writer/Director is coming on board. Nicholas Meyer will be a Writer and Consulting Producer on the new Trek series. And this is awesome news because he's behind the best Star Trek films out there: Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and The Undiscovered Country. Basically, he was involved with every even number Star Trek movie featuring just The Original Series cast and, as all fellow Trek fans know, those are the ones that rock! The Voyage Home is my personal favorite, though that's followed super-closely by Wrath of Khan and First Contact.
I'm super-excited that some of Meyer's caliber is coming on board and have very high hopes for the new series! Can't wait to learn more about where and when it will be set and find out who else will be coming on board both in front of and behind the camera. What do you guys think? Are you excited for a new Star Trek series? What are you favorite Star Trek movies and TV series? Sound off in the comments! And for more info, check out The Hollywood Reporter article! - Jeff

Hey Star Wars fans! I've got some exciting news for you! Star Wars: Episode VIII is now filming! Principal photography began at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016. Here's an interesting fact. Apparently, Disney and Lucasfilm are utilizing drones to make sure that spying doesn't happen on their production in Croatia. There are rumors that they will engage in drone warfare with people that are using drones to get pictures of the set and the cast. Plus, there's a rumor that they have 600 guards. Wow, right? Star Wars: Episode VIII will premiere December 15, 2017. The new cast members include: Benecio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran. Lucasfilm confirmed that the following will return: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. What do you guys think of the new cast members? Star Wars: Episode VIII seems so far, far away! See what I did there? -Kacy Oh my goodness, guys! That mid-season premiere was intense!
You don't know what I'm talking about? Haven't seen it yet? Then stop right here. If you've seen the episode, read on. Caution: Spoilers Ahead! So, The Walking Dead definitely didn't disappoint with its return to television in the Season 6, Episode 9 mid-season premiere. I mean, TWD is a pretty violent show. Of course. We all know that, but this episode was pretty crazy. In this episode, you've got a rocket launcher, a giant lake fire, a lot of deaths and close calls. I think the craziest part of the episode was the constant death after death after death. Geez! We lost Sam, Jessie and Ron pretty much at the same time. Then Carl literally got his eye shot out. That sentence cracks me up because it reminds me of the whole "You'll shoot your eye out!" from A Christmas Story. Let's face it though. Sam wouldn't have lasted a day outside of Alexandria. Plus, he was just super annoying. He would've slowed everyone down. It's basically his fault that his mother and older brother got eaten alive by zombies. The even more frustrating part? That whole situation could've been prevented. Father Gabriel was going to take Sam to his church for safety along with Judith. Sam refused to go and wanted to stay with the rest of the group. Someone should've made that whiny kid go with Father Gabriel. Ugh! Anyone else not a fan of Sam? So, while we're in shock at multiple characters dying at the same time, we see Ron pull a gun and point it toward Rick. BAM! Michonne to the rescue! She runs Ron through with her katana causing Ron to fire a bullet. We see that the bullet took out one of Carl's eyes before he collapses. Is he dead? What? Rick picks him up. Michonne covers Rick as they run back toward Alexandria for cover. Then the epic battle for Alexandria begins! Everyone goes out and fights the zombies! Maggie and Glenn are reunited! Yes! At the end of the episode, we discover that Carl isn't dead. It would be shocking though if he was, right? I'm wondering if an important character will be killed off soon. I mean, Jessie was sort've important since she was Rick's love interest and her character starting developing more through past episodes. It was close with Glenn. I'm wondering if there will be plans to kill off Daryl soon. If he will be killed off at all? I'm sorry, Daryl Dixon fans. It would be a great twist if Daryl died out of the blue. He's a fun character, but his death would make a giant impact on the show since he has such a giant fan base. He can't live forever. What did you guys think of the mid-season premiere? Which character do you think will die next? -Kacy Daredevil fans! It's here! The Season 2 official trailer! Well, Part 1. It looks like we won't see Part 2 until February 25. Then all episodes March 18. Until then, we can watch the trailers to satisfy us. The Netflix series of Marvel's Daredevil is definitely much better than the film. I don't know about you guys, but I'm liking the way Netflix handles series. Can I just say my first reaction? It's Shane Walsh from The Walking Dead. Well, Jon Bernthal. SHANE. All of The Walking Dead fans out there understand what I'm talking about. I'm interested in seeing what Jon Bernthal brings to this series. He's looking good in this trailer! I wasn't a big fan of him in The Walking Dead. Again, all of the TWD fans will understand me here. He has a type. He's always the guy that you absolutely hate. He's a jerk in TWD. He's a jerk in Fury as Pfc. Grady Travis. I want to see more from him besides just being the guy you want to punch in the face. Will this be his chance? I hope so. According to Jon Bernthal's interview with Entertainment Weekly, many people in New York feel the same way. Bernthal told Entertainment Weekly that he has been approached on the streets of New York by people telling him not to mess this up. There is a rumor that Netflix enjoyed Bernthal's performance so much that they are developing a Punisher spin-off. It's very early in the process if it's true. Jon Bernthal had to go to a very dark place for a while for this role. I'm excited to see what happens! So, we meet Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), an ex-military veteran that uses an arsenal of weapons to beat crime by any means necessary. The Punisher. Then we're surprised again when Matt Murdock comes face to face with Elektra Natchios. I really like this trailer. It's creepy. Let's just add in all of the creepy children singing! I'm very excited about seeing the new season! I wonder what we'll see in Part 2 of the official trailer. What do you guys think? -Kacy Hey, Hayao Miyazaki fans! Remember that heartbreaking news about Hayao Miyazaki a couple of years ago? The Wind Rises was supposed to be his last film. Miyazaki was going to retire. I don't know about you guys, but I remember growing up watching Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. Miyazaki's films had a major impact on children everywhere sending them on these extraordinary adventures.
In 2014, Miyazaki announced that he was retiring from filmmaking. He had received an honorary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Governors Awards. He told reporters that there would be no more films created from his pen. He would not be making any more features. He also confirmed that Studio Ghibli would be closing up shop on new films. He thinks the time of pencil, paper and film is coming to an end. Before I start opening up old wounds and we all ugly cry over the memories, I've got some news! Guess what? Hayao Miyazaki is returning to the film world to direct his first computer-animated short film! This news started spreading back in 2015. This will definitely be interesting to see since he's famous for all of his hand-drawn, beautiful, animated feature films. He may have announced his retirement back in 2014, but he told reporters when he received his honorary Oscar that he intends to work until the day he dies. He retired from making feature-length films, but not from animation. He believes that hand-drawn animation will eventually fade away which is really unfortunate. No release plans for the short film have been announced. So, Miyazaki is back! I'm definitely going to miss his hand-drawn feature films. It's sad to know that there will be no more of those to look forward to in the future. We can still look back and appreciate all of the work that he shared with us over time. What do you guys think? What's your favorite Hayao Miyazaki film? -Kacy |
